MAG:NET Solutions Ltd (MAG:NET) are a provider of e-government solutions to the public sector. MAG:NET solutions was established with the aim of providing services that facilitate effective, secure interconnection and co-operation between Local Government, beginning with Local Authorities.

| Business requirements
MAG:NETs initial requirements was to create a solution that would facilitate simplistic communication between local authorities which was achieved in the first release of their LoCTA system written by Yellowbus.
The initial system was used as a "proof of concept" solution and after sucessfully proving itself in a number of local authiroties, a new system was requested to allow a much wider deployment, which allows all of the UK's 408 local authorities to use the system. Once again Yellowbus was involved in the re-design and programming of the new system.
In addition to the software, which comprises of several web sites, business objects and database servers, a robust, secure, scalable hosting platform was required.
| Solution Provided
The new LoCTA system provided by MAG:NET enables subscribing authorities to search a sub-set of each others Benefits and Council Tax systems from their own desks. The system has been rapidly redeveloped and has been designed by users for users. It offers several new facilities to help improve benefit overpayments and council tax recovery performance and secure the gateway to benefits, including:
- A high speed national search that can now access all subscribing authorities benefits databases simultaneously
- A data matching service that runs weekly checks for duplicate benefit claims in different authorities
- A high speed national search that can now access all subscribing authorities council tax databases simultaneously
- Improved facilities for council tax enquiries.
LoCTA is the only proven system currently available on the market that is capable of providing all of these facilities now. There was over 1.7 billion of unpaid council tax and housing benefit overpayments last year. Once all local authorities are using LoCTA, a considerable percentage of these debts will be recovered.
| Technology Used
Yellowbus Solutions has played a key role in the development of the software from conception to completion. With key factors like security being taken into consideration we were able to develop a system that used the latest technologies and also consult on security issues.
The new solution comprises of web sites and business objects written in VB.NET 2 and ASP.NET 2, coupled with a Microsoft SQL 2005 database.
The central part of the solution is hosted and maintained by Yellowbus on behalf of MAG:NET on fully managed secure servers.
